Wolves vs Liverpool Betting Preview

Wolves vs Liverpool Betting Preview

Any lingering doubt regarding Wolverhampton’s Premier League credentials has surely been banished from Molineux by now. The hosts endured a tough spell in the last 2 months, but December has seen their spirits renewed and they find themselves coming back to their best again.

Last time out they beat the impressive Bournemouth 2-0, a result which makes it 3 wins on the trot for them and pushes them back to 7th in the Premier League table. They are 13 points away from that magically 40-point mark which usually guarantees top flight football for another season. That being said, Wolves can consider this season a rather successful return to the big time thus far.

Wolves haven’t just been getting results against the lower quality teams in the league. Their resurgence began with a surprising 2-1 win over title contenders Chelsea at the start of the month, and they have taken 6 points from their 5 games against the traditional Premier League Big Six, only losing to Spurs in these 5 outings.

Liverpool will bear that in mind, but it’s worth remembering that the visitors sit atop the Premier League table for very good reason at the moment. They have collected 45 points from just 17 games so far and are the only team in the league without a defeat to their name this season.

Last weekend’s convincing 3-1 win over Manchester United led to Jose Mourinho’s dismissal at Old Trafford. Jurgen Klopp and his troops have been doing a fantastic job in recent times, they have won 6 consecutive league games and are currently 1 point ahead of second placed Manchester City. They also hold the best defensive record in the league at the moment too, though it’s not without flaws entirely. 5 of the 7 goals Liverpool have conceded this season have come away from home and they have conceded in 5 of their 9 away games in the league.

Wolves Team News
  • Nuno Espirito Santo has no other injury concerns other than Diogo Jota. This means that Helder Costa could start alongside Raul Jimenez for this clash.
Probable Line Up: Patricio (GK), Boly, Coady, Bennett, Jonny, Neves, Moutinho, Doherty, Gibbs-White, Jimenez, Costa

Liverpool Team News
  • Alex Oxlade Chamberlain is out for the season
  • Joseph Gomez, Joel Matip and Trent Alexander-Arnold will miss this match thru injury.
  • James Milner is expected to start here despite missing out against Manchester United.
Probable Line Up: Alisson (GK), Robertson, Dijk, Lovren, Milner, Wijnaldum, Henderson, Mane, Shaqiri, Firmino, Salah

Key Stats
  • Liverpool are unbeaten in 18 Premier League games, their longest ever run in the competition.
  • Liverpool have scored at least 3 goals in their last 3 away games.
  • Wolves haven’t won 4 consecutive top-flight games since January 1972.
  • 3 or more goals have been scored in the last 4 competitive fixtures between these 2 sides.
Head to Head
  • Liverpool have won 3 and lost 2 of their last 5 competitive fixtures against Wolves. The last meeting between them ended in a 2-1 away victory for Wolves back in Jan 2017.
Wolves vs Liverpool Betting Tips
  • This match could be a potential banana skin for Jurgen Klopp and his men. Wolves have already defeated Chelsea at Molineux a couple of weeks back and we doubt Liverpool are going to have it easy here.
  • Despite Liverpool boasting the best defence in the league, they have conceded in 5 of their away games. We fancy Wolves grabbing a goal here.
  • We are predicting a tight contest here and we are predicting either a 1-1 draw or 1-2 win for the visitors.
