WBA vs Aston Villa Betting Preview

Can Aston Villa extend their 5 game unbeaten run when they visit local rivals West Brom on Friday night? These 2 teams kick off the weekend with an intense all-midlands affair. Both teams are also eyeing a return to the Premier League. The hosts are on the verge of the top two, sitting in third following a 1-1 draw with Brentford last weekend. Meanwhile, the Villans are among the form sides in the division, following a brilliant run of 5 undefeated league games. Can they continue that when they make this trip to the Hawthorns?

West Brom’s solid home record should give them some confidence ahead of Friday’s clash, despite drawing with lowly Brentford in their last game here. The Baggies do have a solid home record, which has seen them win 6 and draw 2 of their first 10 home matches since returning to the second tier. However, the hosts are only just climbing back up the table with this 4 game unbeaten run, which followed a streak of 1 point from a possible 12. Will their upturn in form last against a resurgent Villa?

The visitors come here with a pretty huge away win behind them. Last weekend brought a 3-0 success at Middlesbrough, a win which allowed West Brom to move third. However, it also put Villa into eighth, just 3points shy of the play-off spots. The big question when Dean Smith arrived was how quickly he’d turn things around and spark a promotion chase, and that already seems to be happening. The former Brentford boss has clearly taken a step up when you consider there’s now a 9 place gap between his current and former team. Promotion is clearly Villa’s main objective this season following last season’s heartbreak at Wembley after losing to Fulham in the play-off Finals.

WBA Team News
  • Kyle Bartley is out with a knee injury.
  • Bakary Sako has suffered a knock and is doubtful for this fixture.
Probable Line Up: Johnstone (GK), Gibbs, Dawson, Hegazi, Adarabioyo, Phillips, Livermore, Morrison, Barnes, Gayle, Rodriguez

Aston Villa Team News
  • Birkir Bjarnason, Albert Adomah and Henri Lansbury are all out with injuries.
  • Alan Hutton could return to right-back after his 1 match suspension.
Probable Line Up: Nyland (GK), Hutton, Chester, Tuanzebe, Taylor, Ghazi, Hourihane, McGinn, Bolasie, Grealish, Abraham

Key Stats
  • West Brom have lost 4 of their last 5 home league games played on Saturday morning.
  • Aston Villa striker Tammy Abraham has scored 10 goals in his last 10 league appearances, including netting 7 in his last 4.
  • Aston Villa have scored at least 3 goals in their last 4 matches.

Head to Head
  • The last 6 encounters have seen 3 wins for Villa, 2 for WBA and 1 draw. The last match between these 2 teams ended in a goalless draw back in January 2016.

WBA vs Aston Villa Betting Tips
  • Both teams are in great form at the moment and it would be difficult to pick a side to support here. However, we are slighting favouring W.B.A since they have home advantage here. “W.B.A 0” on the Asian Handicap will be our choice here.
  • We think that this will be a cagey affair with neither team wanting to lose here. Both teams will play it safe so we will be going with “Under 3 Goals”. We think that it will either be a 2-1 win for the home side or a 1-1 draw.
