Derby vs Nottingham Forest Football Preview
The 3-point lead fourth placed Derby County hold over local rivals Nottingham Forest could be wiped out this weekend if the visitors can pull off a win in the East Midlands derby. Forest occupy seventh place heading into the match and will be hoping to finish the evening in the play-of positions, but that will also depend on Middlesbrough and West Brom’s results. This is the 93rd East Midlands derby and were expecting a competitive match between two clubs with dreams of a return to the top flight.
Derby County dominated Wigan Athletic last weekend, but only ran out 1-0 winners against their hosts, who spent the majority of the match with 10 men. Wigan’s Naismith was shown a straight red card after just 15 minutes, which automatically asserted control of the game to Derby County. It took just 6 minutes for Derby to take advantage of the situation they found themselves in as Marriott scored what turned out to be the games winning goal. The visitors should have comfortably won this game with their man advantage, but Wigan defended well and they will definitely wonder what could of been if the sending off did not happen.
Forest’s 7-game unbeaten streak in the Championship came to an end last time out when they played host to mid table Preston North End. Nottingham Forest controlled the match for the most part, having 61% of the overall possession, but poor finishing ended up costing the hosts dearly. The pair went in goalless at the break, but Moult would eventually score the game’s only goal, 11 minutes into the second half, to seal victory for the visitors.
